The Logo and Brand Discovery Worksheet

The Logo and Brand Discovery Worksheet

I thought I’d share the brand discovery worksheet I pieced together from some info I’ve gathered. I put this together to help me when starting a new brand related project for new clients who are wanting to create a logo for a start up or new idea they have for a business. This has been very helpful to me and my clients. Maybe you can find it useful as well!

Logo Design Questionnaire

This first part of the worksheet includes “10 questions to ask yourself before you hire a logo designer.” I wrote an article about it and you can check it out here. I include these as part of the worksheet/pdf because I think creating a logo for your brand or product requires some thought and is a good exercise in helping you think about how you want your brand to be perceived.

The Brand Spectrum

The second part of this worksheet is meant to help you answer the question of what kind of character or personality best describes your brand. You will basically rate your brand between two different types of characters. Once you are done you can get a feel for the voice and personality of your brand and then build your creative assets (logo, graphics, content, etc.) around that.

Your Onliness Statement

The third part of the worksheet is what’s called “The Onliness Statment.” The first time I heard about “The Onliness Statement” was during a workshop with Dan Mall from Super Friendly. He is a talented web Designer that I look up to for his work and influence in the web industry. During this workshop, we created our own Onliness Statements and I was able to see the effectiveness behind the exercise. It really makes you think hard about what makes your brand unique and special. The Onliness Statement comes from Marty Neumeier, and he talkes about it in his book Zag, which is his book about brand strategy.

With the Onliness Statment, you are basically creating a statement that is unique to your product or business. This is another cool way to find your brand personality and character, but also stretches your brain as you try to build your brand… It really makes you think and drill it down.

There are many more tools and resources that are effective in helping you find your brand voice and message. Hopefully this simple worksheet can help a little…
